Scientists who discovered mammals can breathe through their anuses receive Ig Nobel prize
Continuing on the grand Ig Nobel trend are these 2024 winners. I just want to know the thought process leading up to some of these experiments happening. Like how do you even get to the point of deciding to investigate if mammals can breathe through their anuses? (Okay, I confess I can actually see a very logical way to end up at that question since turtles and some other reptiles can breathe through their anuses, so it could be an easy leap to wondering whether that is a possibility for mammals as well, but it's more that it's such a logical leap that I don't understand how nobody has asked and answered that question before now??? Mysteries abound.)

THE NOTEBOOK | "My Days"
If you want a gorgeous cathartic song that may or may not be relevant to brain struggles + general uncertainty about life, I stumbled on this and promptly watched it multiple times in a row. Everything from about 2:30 on is just kind of mind-meltingly good, but the whole thing is beautiful. I haven't listened to any of the other songs because I was a little skeptical about a musical version with a book by Ingrid Michaelson tbh (she's great but also not the sort of vibes I ever would have associated with broadway-style music), but I may need to investigate further now.

The Best of Baby Goats in Pajamas!
Literally just 7 minutes of baby goats hopping around in pajamas. That's it. That's the whole video. Truly an ideal 7-minute distraction for an angsty brain.

niche bobbinlace crafting process
Since you enjoy a good fiberarts venture, this seemed like it might be of interest! I love the idea of this group just getting together in a castle to periodically gossip and work on their (incredibly complex) projects. I really can't fathom how they track everything in general, much less at speed and while doing other things like talking simultaneously, but it's very cool to watch. Also just thinking about whoever came up with the patterns to begin with blows my mind. Certified genius.

Can You Outsmart a Raccoon?
More raccoon fandom! Watching/reading about all the raccoon problem-solving skills now has me wondering what would happen if a raccoon and a crow ever become bros and teamed up. Is there an animal heist movie? Like a Logan Lucky/Zootopia crossover with crows and raccoons and chipmunks and other miscellaneous wildlife? Because if not, I feel like somebody should write that script asap. I saw an absolute unit of a raccoon in broad daylight while walking Mahina the other morning and he was completely unphased by people walking by on the path, just continued his leisurely stroll until he got to the tree he was headed for and awkwardly hefted himself up into it. He at least didn't have any visible signs of distemper (a less fun rabbithole related to raccoons I explored a few months ago), so I think he was genuinely just chilling and knew that nobody in their right mind, human or animal, was going to mess with him if they didn't want to ruin their own morning 🤷♀️

It’s like having a toddler
May you find something this week that brings you even a fraction of the joy that having selective hearing + belly-flopping into the pool brings this dog.

How This 300-Year-Old Pastel Stick Maker Creates Nearly 2,000 Colors
If you liked the chalk videos, this is very similar vibes. Very soothing and methodical, everything is calm and people have routines and well-established systems that create beautiful end products basically without fail. When I was poking around for more details I found listings for large collections of these pastels in a basic wooden cabinet/drawer set and it was $30k. Wild.
